Lambourn Facilities
Open seven days a week, twelve months a year
The Lambourn Training Grounds use the natural gradients of the Berkshire Downs to good advantage, providing an array of facilities for the training of both Flat and National Hunt horses.
The majority of the facilities are located on Mandown, 550 acres of downland owned by Jockey Club Estates and situated to the north of Upper Lambourn village.
Mandown includes turf and artificial gallops ranging in distance from 5f to over 1m and ranging in gradient from gentle to steep. In addition, other facilities available to gallops users include the Folly Road Fibresand (west of Lambourn), Long Hedge Woodchip (east of Lambourn) and the Polytrack at Kingsdown (north-west of Upper Lambourn).
Mandown boasts an extensive collection of turf gallops and schooling grounds. These include an all-weather schooling strip, as well as a 60 x 40m schooling arena to educate young horses and improve their jumping technique. The full range of gallops and facilities available can be viewed on the map below and more details on the principal gallops page.
The Training Grounds are maintained by an experienced team of Gallopsmen, headed by the Lambourn Operations Manager. The facilities cater for all types of racehorse, at every stage of their career, from yearlings to point-to-pointers and are open to visiting trainers by prior appointment.
